ZOOTOPIA POST #8: DESIGNING MAYOR LIONHEART AND ASST. MAYOR BELLWEATHER’S OFFICES

Early on I didn’t know where to put Asst. Mayor Belleweather’s desk. So I placed it right outside the mayor’s office in a very insignificant corner. Then it was decided to put her in her own office – the Maintenance Room 🙂 Every now and then, I’ll plot my layout by building a simple mock up in Sketch Up.

ZOOTOPIA POST #9: DESIGNING JUDY HOPPS’ APARTMENT

Zootopia is still no. 1 on its third weekend! Here are my ‪Judy Hopps‬’
apartment designs. In earlier version, she had bunny dolls on her bed, a
long photo of her siblings, and also a scene showing the exterior
neighborhood. Happy Monday everyone!

Exterior must have the animal-like sensibilities but should not look like Monsters Inc.

The fun challenge in designing the environment is incorporating a good balance of literal and subliminal animal-like patterns and designs in the anthropomorphic architecture. The exterior must have those sensibilities but should not look like Monsters, Inc. These are concepts I did based from earlier version of the story. Time of day: daytime/normal hours of operation. ZOOTOPIA POST #4: NICK’S APARTMENT.

In the earlier version of the movie, the story revolves around Nick’s point of view instead of Judy’s. He had a sequence showing his dingy apartment at the basement of a building. I had to pull up references from photos of utility rooms, dismal service floors, and abandoned building basements to design his space. Fun.

A car was supposed to go through the wall and stops in the kitchen.

This was originally the shot where all the objects inside including the mouse, will slide down to the right of screen when building was pushed during a chase.

ZOOTOPIA POST #5: RODENTIA APARTMENTS INTERIOR DESIGN

Designing Rodentia apartment Interiors for our little mammals in the movie. Early story has a couple of scenes inside these apartments. Gave me an opportunity to pay homage to the classic Disney style 🙂 Go and see the movie if you haven’t done so…or watch it again if you have 🙂
